Betcha-Ball
About This Machine
Betcha-Ball, manufactured by Zenith Manufacturing Company of Chicago in April 1932, marks one of the earliest entries into the fledgling pinball industry. As a Pure Mechanical (PM) machine, it predates the electrical systems that would soon dominate the field, relying entirely on gravity and mechanical action for its gameplay.
The Model G accepted 1-cent or 5-cent play as a countertop game. Intriguingly, Zenith -- a name known for radios -- also sold this game in combination with its main product line: Model RT was a radio table on legs, while Model GRT combined the game on a radio table to form a full pin table.
Its understated aesthetic and lack of a distinct theme suggest an emphasis on functional mechanics rather than elaborate design or artistry. Despite its age, Betcha-Ball remains an intriguing piece for collectors and historians, both as one of the very first coin-operated pin games and as a curious crossover between the pinball and radio businesses.
