Sound Stage
About This Machine
Sound Stage, manufactured by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company starting in July 1976, is an electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine with a music and singing theme, produced during the final years of Chicago Coin's operation before the company ceased business in 1977.
One of the standout aspects of Sound Stage is its use of sound effects to enhance the gameplay experience, with two chimes and a knocker creating an atmospheric backdrop as players navigate the playfield. Notable features include two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, eight standup targets, three rollover buttons, and a kick-out hole. The spinning playfield disc, though mounted below the playing surface and not affecting ball travel, adds an extra layer of strategy when hitting Spin targets to score points.
The machine's art and design are music-themed, and it was designed by a team of three: Albin Peters, Jerry Koci, and Wendell McAdams. A four-player version of the same game, called 'Juke Box,' was also released by Chicago Coin in 1976 with different artwork. With 3,000 units confirmed produced, Sound Stage remains an interesting piece of Chicago Coin's late output for EM pinball collectors.
