About This Machine

Solar City, designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison, was produced by D. Gottlieb & Company starting in February 1977, during the later years of Gottlieb's electro-mechanical (EM) output, not long before the company moved to solid-state pinball.

The gameplay on Solar City features a fantasy theme with a 10-bank of drop targets, a 5-bank of drop targets, and standup targets, alongside four flippers, two pop bumpers, and two slingshots. The playfield was reused for several other Gottlieb releases, including the single-player 'El Dorado,' add-a-ball versions 'Gold Strike' and 'Lucky Strike,' and the four-player 'Target Alpha' and 'Canada Dry.'

One interesting aspect of Solar City is its relatively high point score capacity, reaching up to 99,990 points per player. With 2,634 units confirmed produced, it remains a piece of pinball history for enthusiasts of vintage Gottlieb EM machines and their many production variants.
