Sluggin' Champ
About This Machine
Sluggin, a 1955 electro-mechanical pinball machine from Gottlieb, continues the well-established baseball theme in pinball, capturing the essence of America's favorite pastime during the mid-20th century. With 950 units confirmed produced, it was released in two cabinet styles - a standard cabinet and a new deluxe cabinet with a wider backbox and angled legs that Gottlieb would use more often for its multi-player games later in the decade.
Sluggin features a classic electro-mechanical layout with two flippers, two pop bumpers, and two slingshots. Four standup targets and two gobble holes add an extra layer of challenge to the game. The sound effects, consisting of two bells and a knocker, round out the play experience. As with many EM games of the era, timing and strategy are key to maximizing scores.
The artwork, by Roy Parker, reflects the classic illustration style typical of 1950s pinball machines. Sluggin was designed by Wayne Neyens, a prolific and well-regarded Gottlieb designer, making it a solid representative of the company's mid-1950s output.
