Sky Jump
About This Machine
Sky Jump, designed by Ed Krynski with art by Gordon Morison, is a 1974 electro-mechanical pinball machine from D. Gottlieb & Company. It is the standard replay version of the same parachuting-themed design that Gottlieb also released as the Add-A-Ball game 'Free Fall,' which in turn was exported to Italy as 'Sky Dive.'
The single-player machine features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, a 7-bank of drop targets, and six standup targets on the playfield, giving players a variety of shots. The maximum displayed point score is 99,990 points, and the game's sound comes from three chimes and a knocker.
The parachuting theme carries through the art by Gordon Morison. In a bit of personal trivia, the airplane registration number N188PA painted on the backglass reportedly belonged to a plane owned by designer Wayne Neyens's son, added as a lark at his suggestion. With 4,200 confirmed units produced, Sky Jump saw a healthier production run than its Sky Dive export counterpart, making it a relatively accessible piece of Gottlieb's mid-1970s parachuting-themed trio for collectors today.
