About This Machine

The Silver Streak, produced by Bally Manufacturing Corporation in June 1935, is a single-ball, battery-operated payout machine with an airplane and air-travel theme -- a small tabletop/counter-style game rather than a full-size pinball cabinet. As a one-ball payout game from the mid-1930s, it predates the pinball flipper by more than a decade; play instead centered on where the single ball landed after being launched.

Each rollover the ball landed in paid out, and it was possible to score on up to five rollovers in a single play, making for a game built around chance and modest, immediate payouts rather than sustained multi-ball strategy. An all-metal stand was available for an extra charge, letting operators set the compact machine up as a standalone counter unit.

Despite sharing its name with the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad's famous streamliner train (and a later 1934 movie), Bally's Silver Streak features airplanes rather than trains on its playfield, and IPDB notes it does not appear to be directly connected to that famous locomotive's branding -- an interesting naming coincidence rather than a direct thematic tie-in.
