Show Boat
About This Machine
The Show Boat, manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in April 1961, was designed by Wayne Neyens with artwork by Roy Parker, and depicts an American History - Boats theme inspired by Edna Ferber's 1926 novel of the same name (also adapted for Broadway and film several times between 1927 and 1994).
Show Boat features four flippers -- the left flipper button operates the left-side pair, and the right flipper button operates the right-side pair -- along with six pop bumpers, one passive bumper, and four rollunders. Scoring A-B-C lights a second match number at the end of the game, a feature it shares with Gottlieb's 1961 'Big Casino.' The backglass includes a "Score To Beat" window, letting operators post a suggested high score for players to chase, with a maximum displayed score of 1,999 points.
With 1,950 confirmed units produced, Show Boat remains a well-documented piece of Gottlieb's early-1960s output and an appealing find for collectors of riverboat and Americana-themed EM pinball.
