Short Stop
About This Machine
Short Stop, produced by Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) in April 1940, is a Flipperless, electro-mechanical (EM) baseball-themed pinball machine, its theme reflecting the sport's popularity in early pinball design of the era.
Gameplay centers on 12 spring bumpers and an electromagnet located at the bottom of the playfield that triggers an "Extra Runs" feature. The machine shares its playfield layout with Exhibit's 1940 'Merry-Go-Round,' though it is not fully documented how the upper playfield's baseball-diamond display operates or how balls enter and leave that area.
Little is known about the machine's designer, but as an early Flipperless EM baseball game from Exhibit Supply, Short Stop remains an interesting artifact for collectors researching the company's sports-themed output.
