About This Machine

Ship Ahoy is an electro-mechanical pinball machine manufactured by Gottlieb in June 1976, designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison. It is a single-player, Add-A-Ball specialty game with a pirate adventure theme.

Gameplay features three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two standup targets, and a single spinning target, along with two flippers for ball control. Scoring reaches up to 1,999,000 points per the flyer's giant-scoring format. The machine includes a round, metal lamp board underneath the playfield and uses three chimes for sound.

According to Gottlieb's domestic and export sales records, 1,150 units were sold domestically with no export sales, plus 16 additional sample units produced in 1976. The replay (as opposed to add-a-ball) version of this game was released as Gottlieb's 'Buccaneer', also in 1976, and an add-a-ball version for the Italian export market was released as 'High Seas'.
