Seawitch
About This Machine
The Seawitch, designed by Mike Kubin with artwork by Bob Timm, was manufactured by Stern Electronics in May 1980. By this point Stern — which had been producing solid-state (SS) machines since its founding in 1977 — had already released numerous SS titles, and Seawitch represents a mature example of the company's output rather than an early experiment with the technology.
At its core, Seawitch is a fantasy-themed game for up to four players. The machine boasts four flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, and an array of targets, including standup targets, drop targets (both a 4-bank and a 3-bank), a spinning target, and star rollovers. This combination of mechanical elements creates a dynamic playing experience typical of the era's Stern output.
The Seawitch's design and artwork reflect its fantasy theme, with illustrations of sea creatures and treasures adorning the cabinet and playfield, all created by artist Bob Timm during his time at Ad Posters. With 2,503 units produced, Seawitch remains a solid, well-regarded example of Stern's late-1970s/early-1980s design sensibility.
