Royal Flush Deluxe
About This Machine
The Royal Flush Deluxe, designed by Ed Krynski and manufactured by Gottlieb in 1983, is a solid-state remake of Gottlieb's 1976 EM game Royal Flush. Built on the Gottlieb System 80A platform, it blends the classic card-themed layout of its predecessor with then-current solid-state electronics.
A closer examination of the machine reveals a lineup of features carried over and refined from its EM predecessor: two flippers, two slingshots, three standup targets, three dip targets, a nine-bank drop target, one pop bumper, and a kick-out hole all work together to create a challenging playfield. The game's maximum displayed point score of 9,999,990 points per player reflects the higher-resolution scoring capabilities of solid-state hardware compared to the EM original's 99,990 maximum.
The machine's cards/gambling theme is carried through its cabinet and playfield artwork by Terry Doerzaph and David Moore, featuring a stylized playing-card motif. With only 2,044 units confirmed produced, the Royal Flush Deluxe remains a comparatively scarce entry in Gottlieb's early-1980s catalog and a notable pick for collectors interested in the System 80A era.
