Abra Ca Dabra
About This Machine
Abra Ca Dabra, designed by Jeff Brenner and released by Gottlieb in November 1975, is a classic single-player electro-mechanical game from the company's wedge-head era. With 2,937 units confirmed produced, it found a solid audience among operators of its day.
Gameplay is pure mid-70s Gottlieb: two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, a pair of five-bank drop targets, and a standup target, with dual inlanes feeding the flippers. The maximum displayed score is 99,990 points, and the game announces its business with three chimes and a knocker. A half-moon credit window completes the period details.
The wizardly theme comes to life through Gordon Morison's artwork - in fact, the backglass art is shared with Gottlieb's 1971 'Wizard'. Collectors may also know this game's add-a-ball sibling: Gottlieb's 1977 'Team One', which was exported to Italy as 'Kicker' with different artwork. Abra Ca Dabra is a well-rounded example of the craftsmanship of pinball's electro-mechanical golden age.
