Ro-Lay
About This Machine
The Ro-Lay is a pure mechanical (PM) pinball machine produced by the Wal-Bil Novelty Company of St. Louis, Missouri, in April 1932 - the company's only known release. As a single-player, purely mechanical game from the very early years of coin-operated pinball (shortly after Gottlieb's landmark 'Baffle Ball' debuted in late 1931), the Ro-Lay is a scarce artifact from the industry's earliest boom period, when dozens of small manufacturers rushed to produce their own pinball-style games.
Little documentation survives about the Ro-Lay's specific gameplay, theme, or artwork, and details about Wal-Bil Novelty Company itself are similarly sparse. Its rarity and obscurity make it a curiosity for collectors interested in the earliest days of pinball history.
