About This Machine

The Robocop pinball machine, released in 1989 by Data East Pinball, Incorporated, brings the popular film franchise to the flipper tables with a cops-and-robbers theme centered on law enforcement. Designed by Joe Kaminkow and Ed Cebula, with artwork by Kevin O'Connor, this solid state electronic (SS) machine is a recognizable piece of licensed pinball from the late 1980s.

Key features include dual flippers and a three-ball multiball mode, along with a "Jump Ramp" toy that anchors the playfield's action.

Despite the strength of its movie license, Robocop was a modest seller by Kaminkow's own account - he has said the game "didn't sell a whole lot," with confirmed production of around 1,500 units. He did, however, like the playfield layout enough to reuse and adapt it for Data East's 1991 title Checkpoint. For collectors today, Robocop remains a notable piece of Data East's late-1980s output and an interesting example of how a strong license doesn't always translate into strong sales.
