Red & Ted's Road Show
About This Machine
Red & Ted is a solid-state electronic pinball machine from 1994, conceived by Pat Lawlor and designed together with Dwight Sullivan and Ted Estes. Part of Williams/Midway's "SuperPin" line of widebody games, Red & Ted stands out among mid-1990s pinball machines for its distinctive concept.
At first glance, it's clear that Red & Ted is designed for high-scoring thrills. The machine boasts four flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, and a shaker motor, ensuring an exhilarating experience for players. But what sets Red & Ted apart is its unique playfield design: two large, talking heads - the titular Red and Ted - can swallow the ball, adding an element of unpredictability to gameplay. Country singer Carlene Carter voiced "Red," while veteran voice-over artist Tim Kitzrow voiced "Ted." The machine also features unlimited buy-in balls per player, an operator-configurable option.
Visually, Red & Ted showcases artwork by John Youssi built around its travel theme. It wasn't the only Williams machine with a talking head toy - the company had used the idea before on 1990's Funhouse - but Red & Ted's dual-headed take, combined with Carlene Carter's original song "Every Little Thing" played during multiball and jackpot modes, gives it its own distinct personality.
