About This Machine

Ricochet, manufactured by Stoner Manufacturing Company in February 1937, is a flipperless electromechanical machine built around a horse-racing theme. Its designer, Wendell Bartelt, was part of the era's wave of designers shaping early pinball conventions.

Ricochet's gameplay offers 5 balls for 5 cents, with 15 spring bumpers scattered across the playfield. Colored bumpers advance the scores of like-colored horses shown on the backglass, tying the scoring directly to the racing theme, and the game is equipped with the Electropak scoring system. The cabinet was advertised at 41 inches long and 21 inches wide, and sold new for $59.50.

The horse-racing theme is rendered through colorful backglass artwork depicting competing horses, a common motif for sports-themed machines of the pre-flipper era. Ricochet remains a representative example of Stoner's late-1930s output.
