Reserve
About This Machine
The Reserve, designed by Steve Kordek and manufactured by Williams in 1961, is a single-player electromechanical pinball machine built around a nautical, scuba-diving theme. Kordek was a prolific designer known for popularizing the now-standard placement of flippers at the bottom of the playfield, and the Reserve reflects the mature EM gameplay conventions of the early 1960s.
Gameplay centers on two flippers guiding the ball through a layout featuring three pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, four standup targets, two kick-out holes, and a gobble hole. The maximum displayed score is 1,999 points, with sound provided by two bells and a knocker.
Artist George Molentin's playfield and cabinet art evoke the game's boats-and-water theme. Only 750 units of the Reserve were produced, making it a relatively scarce piece from Williams' EM catalog and an interesting example of Kordek's early-1960s design work.
