About This Machine

The Red Arrow, manufactured by Supreme Vending Company in September 1933, is a notable early example of a flipper pinball machine. It is entirely mechanical, made prior to the first appearance of an EM flipper on Gottlieb's 1947 'Humpty Dumpty'. The Red Arrow's mechanical flipper is operated by a red control knob on the front of the cabinet, to the right of the coin chute.

Gameplay on the Red Arrow is characterized by its 17 trap holes and one free play hole, which test players' skills and strategy. The mechanical flipper requires precision and timing, adding an extra layer of challenge to what was already a demanding game.

The game was available with either a metal stand or wooden legs. Little further information is available on the Red Arrow's design, art, or theme, but its early mechanical flipper mechanism makes it a significant link in the pre-EM history of the flipper's development.
