Real
About This Machine
The 1978 Real pinball machine, designed by Ed Cebula and Wendell McAdams for Game Plan, Incorporated (with art by Paul Loreli), is a solid-state cocktail-table game built around a licensed theme. Its centerpiece is a roulette wheel sitting at the middle of the playfield, activated by the machine's three kick-out holes to give players random awards.
The gameplay experience on Real is rounded out by two flippers, two slingshots, and two spinning targets, which add an extra layer of challenge and strategy to the game, while a pair of pop bumpers provides quick and easy scoring opportunities. The roulette wheel mechanism remains the game's most distinctive feature.
Little else is documented about the specific licensed theme or the design inspirations behind Real, but it remains a distinctive and relatively scarce example of Game Plan's late-1970s cocktail-table output.
