Stoner's Races
About This Machine
The Stoner pinball machine, manufactured by the Stoner Manufacturing Company of Aurora, Illinois, in October 1937, is a single-player electro-mechanical machine built around a horse-racing sports theme. It was part of the company's "Aristocrat" series of games.
By 1937, pinball had already been a commercially widespread industry for several years, and flippers had not yet been invented -- they wouldn't appear until a decade later -- so gameplay on the Stoner relied on the tilt and layout of the playfield rather than player-controlled paddles, in keeping with EM machines of the mid-1930s.
Little detailed information survives about the Stoner's specific mechanical features, designer, or artwork. As part of the "Aristocrat" line and a horse-racing themed release from a relatively short-lived manufacturer, it remains a piece of interest for collectors focused on pre-flipper 1930s pinball history.
