About This Machine

Race Time, designed by Wayne Neyens with art by Roy Parker, was manufactured by Gottlieb in March 1959. It's a two-player, horse-racing-themed electro-mechanical machine -- one of many EM titles Gottlieb would continue producing for well over a decade after this release, rather than one of the last of its kind.

The machine features four flippers, four pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, two slingshots, three gobble holes, and three standup targets. Aligning any three spots lights holes and rollovers for a high score, and spotted values carry over from game to game. A double match can award either 2 or 10 replays, operator-adjustable, and the game supports 3- or 5-ball play.

The backglass carries Gottlieb's familiar slogan, 'Amusement Pinballs, as American as Baseball and Hot Dogs!', and features a horse-racing illustration in Roy Parker's signature style; some variant backglasses are known to omit part of the slogan or show subtle redrawn artwork differences. With 950 units confirmed produced, Race Time is a solid if lower-volume entry in Gottlieb's late-1950s horse racing-themed machines.
