Punk!
About This Machine
Punk! is a 1982 widebody machine from Gottlieb that showcases the company's approach to music-themed pinball during the solid-state era. Designed by Tom Szafransky -- notably, the game was produced after the original playfield designer had already left the company -- Punk!'s blend of catchy sounds and challenging gameplay has made it a prized find among collectors, with only 959 units confirmed produced.
What sets Punk! apart is its array of interactive elements. Four flippers give players ample opportunities to work the five pop bumpers, two slingshots, and five kick targets scattered throughout the playfield. Four banks of three drop targets offer a tantalizing challenge, while the two kick-out holes add an element of surprise, and two standup targets ensure every shot counts.
Punk!'s design and art, by Terry Doerzaph and David Moore, pay homage to the rebellious spirit of early-1980s punk rock. Running on the Gottlieb System 80A platform, the machine's electronics supported the sound and music integration typical of the era. For those who can find one, Punk!'s blend of challenging gameplay and nostalgic charm makes it a treasure of the pinball world.
