About This Machine

The Pro Pool, designed by Ed Krynski with art by Gordon Morison, was released by Gottlieb in December 1973 as a single-player, add-a-ball billiards-themed machine.

Key to Pro Pool's play is its use of flippers, slingshots, and drop targets: players can aim their shots using the two banks of seven-bank drop targets and two stand-up targets, while the single kick-out hole adds an element of risk-reward to gameplay. The game's sound design is simple yet effective, utilizing three chimes to punctuate player achievements, and the maximum displayed point score is 199,990.

The Pro Pool's artwork evokes a classic pool hall setting. It was also exported to Italy as 'Play Pool,' and its replay versions became the two-player 'Big Shot' (1974) and four-player 'Hot Shot' (1973). With only 800 units confirmed produced, it's a relatively scarce piece of Gottlieb's early-1970s catalog.
