Base Hit
About This Machine
Base Hit, manufactured by Genco Manufacturing Company of Chicago in 1935, is an early electro-mechanical (EM) pinball machine from the first years of pinball's commercial era. Genco was one of the busiest Chicago game makers of the 1930s, and Base Hit represents the company's take on what was already becoming a popular subject for coin-operated games: baseball.
As a single-player game from the pre-flipper era, play would have consisted of launching balls onto the playfield and scoring based on where they came to rest, with the electro-mechanical components of the day - relays, coils, and lights - handling scoring duties that purely mechanical games could not.
Little specific information about the machine's designer or features has survived, but its position among the earliest wave of electrified pinball machines makes it a fascinating piece for enthusiasts to study and appreciate.
