Bobby Orr Power Play
About This Machine
The Bobby Orr Power Play pinball machine, released in January 1978, was designed by Greg Kmiec for Bally Manufacturing Corporation, with art by Dave Christensen. It is a solid-state electronic machine that was, notably, only the second solid-state game to feature an up-post between the flippers, following Sega Enterprises' 1976 'Rodeo.'
The machine's theme centers on Bobby Orr, one of the greatest hockey players of all time, adding sports-celebrity appeal. The layout features a unique combination of large and small flippers, with two 3-inch and two 2-inch flippers, along with three pop bumpers, two slingshots, and ten star rollovers. The machine also boasts a maximum display of 999,990 points per player.
Bally's design and art give the cabinet a vibrant illustration of Bobby Orr in action, while the playfield reflects a hockey theme with targets and rollovers arranged around the up-post mechanism. With a confirmed production run of 13,750 units, Bobby Orr Power Play was a commercially successful title of its era and remains a notable example of late-1970s licensed sports-celebrity pinball.
