Popeye Saves the Earth
About This Machine
Popeye Saves the Earth is a licensed-theme pinball machine from Midway Manufacturing Company (trading as Bally), released in February 1994. This solid-state widebody game was designed by Barry Oursler and Python Anghelo, with art by John Youssi, Python Anghelo, and Pat McMahon.
The game centers on its multiball modes, offering 2-, 3-, 4-, and 6-ball play, with a maximum of one buy-in ball per player as an operator option. It features four flippers, three pop bumpers, and two slingshots. Voice-over artist Tim Kitzrow provided the voice of Popeye, adding character-driven callouts that were a growing trend in early-1990s pinball.
The artwork and design bring the classic cartoon's world to life, with the machine's widebody cabinet giving extra room for the Popeye, Olive Oyl, and Bluto theme. With a confirmed production run of 4,217 units, Popeye Saves the Earth is a solidly represented example of Midway/Bally's licensed-theme output from the WPC (DCS) era, and it remains a favorite among collectors who enjoy the intersection of pinball and classic cartoons.
