PlayMates
About This Machine
PlayMates, designed by Ed Krynski and manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in 1968, is an electro-mechanical (EM) Add-A-Ball pinball machine with a happiness-and-friendship theme. It was produced in a confirmed run of 500 units, and its replay version is Gottlieb's 1968 'Domino'.
PlayMates boasts an array of engaging gameplay features characteristic of Gottlieb's designs during this period. Two flippers allow players to maneuver balls with precision, while four pop bumpers add a touch of unpredictability. Standup targets and slingshots provide additional challenges for high-scoring attempts. The machine's maximum displayed point score is 9,999 points. The gameplay experience is rich in variety, making PlayMates an attractive addition to any pinball collection.
The theme of happiness, games, and friendship is conveyed through artwork by Art Stenholm that adorns the playfield and backglass. Ed Krynski was a prolific designer during his time at Gottlieb, contributing to numerous pinball classics, and PlayMates represents one of his lesser-known but still collectible works.
