Pinball Champ '82
About This Machine
The Pinball Champ, released by Zaccaria in April 1982, marks Zaccaria's first multi-level game, featuring two playfields. This was also the first release of Zaccaria's second generation of solid-state hardware, using a 1B1165 MPU, five 1B1168 display boards, a 1B1170 sound board, and a 1B1167/0 power supply board.
The Pinball Champ's dual-playfield layout provides four flippers, two on the main playfield and two on the upper transparent playfield, giving players more control and strategic options across levels. A timed 'bonus ball' adds an extra layer of pressure, while an elevated ball shooter lane allows for precise shot placement. An audio jack located on the cabinet front beneath the ball shooter even lets players listen to the game via headphones.
The Pinball Champ's design and art, by Lorenzo Rimondini, are typical of Zaccaria's style during this period. While little is known about the game's specific designer credits or reception, the machine remains an important piece of pinball history as the debut of Zaccaria's multi-level, dual-playfield format.
