Pinball Champ
About This Machine
The Pinball Champ, dated April 1983, is a re-release by Italian manufacturer Zaccaria of their 1982 game of the same name, featuring slightly modified artwork by Lorenzo Rimondini. It runs on Zaccaria's Generation 2 solid-state hardware, using a 1B1165/1 MPU, five 1B1168 display boards, a 1B1170 sound board, and a 1B1167/0 power supply board. This model year also saw some 7-digit variants produced alongside the standard 8-digit games, distinguished by different display boards, different game ROMs, and an embossed 50,000-point upper playfield rather than the 100,000-point playfield used on the 8-digit version.
As with its 1982 predecessor, Pinball Champ carries a sports/pinball theme and supports up to four players. No designer is credited for the game's layout in available records.
As a refreshed edition of an existing title rather than a new design, this 1983 Pinball Champ reflects Zaccaria's continued solid-state output during the early 1980s, a period when SS technology was already the industry norm rather than a novelty.
