About This Machine

Paul Bunyan is a 2-player electro-mechanical pinball machine manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in August 1968, with 1,900 units produced. It was designed by Wayne Neyens, Ed Krynski, and Steve Kirk, with artwork by Art Stenholm. An Italian version of the game was released as Gottlieb's 'Big Jack.'

The machine features six flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, seven standup targets, two kick-out holes, and a rollunder, along with left and right dual outlanes. The A-B-C targets carry over their state from player to player, adding a strategic layer across turns.

The game's theme draws on American folklore, centered on the legendary giant lumberjack Paul Bunyan. As with much of Gottlieb's late-1960s output, the artwork and layout reflect the era's aesthetic sensibilities, offering a window into the studio's design approach at the time.
