About This Machine

Out of Sight, designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morison, was released by D. Gottlieb & Company in December 1974. This two-player, psychedelic-themed machine shares its layout with the four-player version released the same year, "Far Out."

The gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, and two slingshots that provide a challenging, fast-paced experience. Two banks of five drop targets and two standup targets add scoring variety, while a left kickback lane and right outlane ball-return gate give players extra chances to keep the ball in play. An end-of-ball bonus rewards players who can rack up a high score before their ball drains, with player scores displayed up to 99,990 points.

The machine's design and art lean into 1970s psychedelia, with bold colors and abstract patterns across the playfield. As a solid example of Gottlieb's mid-1970s electro-mechanical output from designer Ed Krynski, Out of Sight offers collectors an accessible piece of the era's pinball design before the company's eventual shift to solid-state technology later in the decade.
