About This Machine

Monte Carlo, designed by Jim Patla with art by Dave Christensen, was manufactured by Bally in March 1973. This four-player electro-mechanical machine carries a cards-and-gambling theme, continuing a lineage of casino-themed Bally tables that stretched back at least to the company's earlier Monte Carlo (1964). A one-player version of this 1973 game was also released as Bally's Odds & Evens.

Gameplay features two flippers, three pop bumpers, two mushroom bumpers, two slingshots, ten mini-rollover buttons, two kick-out holes, an upper and lower gate, and an up-post between the flippers, along with an end-of-ball bonus. The game supports 3 or 5 ball play and can display up to 199,990 points per player, with a replay wheel that maxes out at 25 replays.

With its polished 1970s styling and busy target layout, this Monte Carlo represents Bally's mature electro-mechanical design work just before the industry's shift to solid-state electronics later in the decade.
