Monaco
About This Machine
Monaco, produced by Segasa of Spain in July 1977, is a four-player electro-mechanical machine with a theme built around world locales, water sports, and recreation. It was reworked from Segasa's 1976 title Cannes, with higher point values and various rule changes; notably, the manufacturer never corrected the earlier game's rollover misspelling, so the top-center rollover on Monaco still reads "Extra Ball Whet Lit" instead of "When Lit."
Gameplay includes two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, three kick-out holes, two standup targets, a spinning target, and a swinging target, offering a fairly busy layout for a mid-1970s EM table. The game supports 3 or 5 ball play and can display up to 999,990 points per player. It uses standard Williams replacement parts, reflecting how interconnected European and American pinball manufacturing was during this period.
No designer credit is recorded for Monaco, but its lineage from Cannes and its colorful travel-and-leisure theme make it a notable entry in Segasa's electro-mechanical catalog.
