MiniZag
About This Machine
The MiniZag, designed by Ted Zale with art by Jerry Kelley, was manufactured by Bally in November 1968, with 1,172 confirmed units produced. It is an electro-mechanical game built around Bally's "zipper flipper" mechanism, a distinctive gimmick that snaps the flippers together to catapult the ball.
The game's feature set includes two zipper flippers, three pop bumpers, five mushroom bumpers, three slingshots, 11 rollover buttons, and two kick-out holes, along with a captive ball in the "Zagger Lane" and a spot-lite backglass bonus feature. The Dancing/Music theme is reflected in the backglass artwork.
MiniZag could be configured for 3-ball, 5-ball, or 7-ball play depending on operator preference. It could also be converted between replay and add-a-ball operation via a shorting plug on the motor board, making it a flexible title for operators of the era.
