Merry-Go-Round
About This Machine
The Merry-Go-Round pinball machine, manufactured by Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) in 1940, is a single-player, flipperless example of early electro-mechanical pinball design. With its carnival/circus theme, it offers a glimpse into the game's aesthetic and gameplay mechanics decades before flippers existed. It shares the same playfield layout as ESCO's 1940 'Short Stop'.
The machine's gameplay features a blend of mechanical and electromechanical elements: twelve spring bumpers, four captive balls, and an electromagnet located at the bottom of the playfield that triggers an "Extra 1000" award. A mechanical carousel on the playfield adds movement and visual interest to the game.
The machine's designer is not documented, and little further information about its production run or history has been confirmed, which adds to its air of mystery for collectors and pinball historians interested in this period of ESCO's output.
