Memory Lane
About This Machine
Memory Lane, manufactured by Stern Electronics starting in June 1978, is a notable early solid-state title from Stern. Its sports theme, centered on bowling, was a departure from the fantasy and adventure themes common at the time. It was also the last Stern game to use an electro-mechanical chime unit; Stern's next release, 'Lectronamo,' used an electronic sound board instead. A total of 2,624 units were produced.
The game's features include two flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten rollover buttons arranged in a bowling-pin configuration, a 3-bank drop target, three standup targets, two kick-out holes, and two spinning targets.
In terms of design and art, Memory Lane features a straightforward aesthetic that captures the essence of bowling, typical of Stern's output from this period. Some surviving examples are known to have a Pintone sound board and speaker installed, likely added by operators using parts supplied by Wico Corporation rather than as a factory feature.
