Mars Trek
About This Machine
Mars Trek was manufactured by Segasa d.b.a. Sonic of Spain in August 1977, an outer-space and fantasy-themed electro-mechanical machine for up to four players. Its feature set includes three flippers, two pop bumpers, two slingshots, five standup targets, two kick-out holes, two spinning targets, and a horseshoe lane.
The gameplay experience on Mars Trek mixes challenging shot-making with high-scoring opportunities. The inclusion of an end-of-ball bonus and a choice of 3- or 5-ball play adds depth, letting players and operators decide between longer or shorter games. The machine's maximum displayed score of 999,900 points per player rewards skillful, sustained play.
Collectors have identified an early-production variant of Mars Trek with several small playfield differences from the standard release, including a continuous curved orange path in the upper playfield (versus striped), darker flipper-area artwork, black rather than white bonus lettering at the kick-out holes, and an orange-on-white cabinet instead of red-on-white. These variations make Mars Trek an interesting subject for collectors tracking early production runs.
