About This Machine

Rocket is a single-player, flipperless electro-mechanical pinball machine from Bally Manufacturing Corporation, carrying an early Space Age theme. Though the backglass reads "Bally's Rocket," the manufacturer's own flyer refers to the game simply as "Rocket," and other resources have sometimes listed it as "Bally Rocket."

Advertised as offering five balls for five cents, the game could be set by the operator for either 3-ball or 5-ball play. The playfield features ten passive bumpers and five kick-out holes. An interesting quirk: the green flipper-like bumpers on each side of the upper kick-out hole are purely stationary decorations - they do not flip, as this game predates player-controlled flippers.

As a flipperless Bally game with a space theme, Rocket is an intriguing piece for collectors interested in the era when pinball was still a game of plunger skill and nudging rather than flipper control.
