Lucky Ace
About This Machine
Lucky Ace, designed by Norm Clark with artwork by Christian Marche, was manufactured by Williams Electronics in 1974 during the final years of the electro-mechanical era. A single-player game with a cards-and-gambling theme, it shares its design with Williams' 1973 'High Ace', except that the locations of the Extra Ball and Special awards were switched, and its four-player counterpart is Williams' 1973 'Dealer's Choice'. Williams confirmed a production run of 2,809 units.
The playfield is generously equipped for its day, with four flippers, three pop bumpers, two slingshots, ten rollover buttons, and eight standup targets. An end-of-ball bonus rewards the player with additional points at the end of each ball, and the maximum displayed point score is 199,990 points. The sound package is classic EM fare: three chimes and a knocker.
Like many Williams games of the period, Lucky Ace could be adjusted by the operator for either replay or add-a-ball operation, letting it fit local regulations and preferences. With its card-table theme and busy single-player layout, it remains a representative example of mid-1970s Williams electro-mechanical design.
