Line Drive
About This Machine
Line Drive, manufactured by Williams Electronics in January 1972, is a two-player, baseball-themed electro-mechanical pinball machine, model number 410, with 1,501 confirmed units produced. It was available in Replay, Novelty Play, and Extra Inning versions to suit different operator needs.
Gameplay follows baseball rules in miniature: three outs per inning, with games lasting 1, 2, or 3 innings depending on operator adjustment. Eight hanging targets populate the playfield, and a center ramp can deliver the ball to a hanging target for a Bull's Eye Grand Slam. A mechanical backbox animation shows runners advancing around the bases as the game progresses, reinforcing the baseball theme.
Line Drive belongs to a long tradition of baseball-themed pinball and arcade games — manufacturers had been producing baseball-themed games since pinball's earliest decades — but its combination of adjustable inning length, hanging targets, and animated basepaths gives it a distinct identity among Williams' electro-mechanical sports titles of the early 1970s.
