About This Machine

The Bally Lido is a single-player electro-mechanical bingo machine (model 680) designed by Don Hooker. Like other games in Bally's bingo lineage, it combines pinball shooting with card-style scoring: players use 25 trap holes and 2 rollover buttons to set up combinations of numbers.

Lido offers several purchasable features — Magic Screen, OK Feature, Futurity Feature, and White Button Feature — that let the player rearrange numbers on the card displayed in the backglass. Depending on which features are in play, buttons can be pressed before the fourth ball, before the fifth ball, or after the fifth ball is shot, adding a layer of strategic timing to each game.

Little further documentation survives about Lido's release year or original advertising, which is typical for Bally's bingo-style machines of this era. Even so, its combination of purchasable, rearrangeable scoring features marks it as a distinctive entry among Don Hooker's designs for Bally.
