About This Machine

Leap-Year, produced by Marvel Manufacturing Company in April 1948, is a single-player electro-mechanical pinball machine featuring four flippers, an uncommon count for the era.

The game offered five balls for five cents, with an optional "Plus 4" coin mechanism that let operators price it at 5, 10, 15, or 20 cents per game via a single coin chute, with each added coin lowering the score needed for free plays. Its playfield includes thirteen passive bumpers and two kick-out holes, plus a distinctive outhole bonus feature in which the outhole trough itself serves as five additional scoring pockets.

The backglass artist is unknown, though the artwork shows "fried egg" zero styling often associated with (but not exclusive to) artist Roy Parker. Marvel Manufacturing operated only from 1944 to 1948, making Leap-Year one of the company's final releases before it ceased operations.
