Knockout
About This Machine
The Knockout, manufactured by Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO) in 1941, is a flipperless, single-player boxing-themed pinball machine from the pure-mechanical/pre-flipper era. Players got five balls for five cents, aiming to work the ball through twelve passive bumpers and a kick-out hole.
Gameplay centers on completing the numbered sequence 1 through 10 to light "Special," giving players a clear scoring goal despite the absence of flippers, which would not be introduced to pinball for several more years. This straightforward but skill-based objective was typical of the era's flipperless "bagatelle"-style pin games.
Little is documented about the machine's designer or additional trivia, but as a boxing-themed ESCO title from the early 1940s, Knockout offers a window into pre-flipper pinball design and remains a piece of interest for collectors of vintage machines.
