Knock Out
About This Machine
The 1950 Knock Out, designed by Harry Mabs for D. Gottlieb & Company, is a boxing-themed electro-mechanical pinball machine from the early flipper era. It uses two flippers positioned to create a challenging layout, along with two pop bumpers, two kick-out holes, and a V-shaped blocking gate between the flippers. Notably, Knock Out has no slingshots, which is unusual and highlights the designer's focus on flipper-based play.
A distinctive feature of Knock Out is its playfield animation of two boxers who appear to "fight," tying the mechanical presentation directly to its boxing theme. Artwork was provided by Roy Parker, typical of Gottlieb's output in this period.
While detailed historical records about the machine's reception are scarce, Knock Out remains an interesting example of early-1950s Gottlieb design, produced in a confirmed run of 3,000 units.
