Ball Fan Series of 1937
About This Machine
The Ball Fan Series of 1937 is an early piece of pinball history, manufactured by Stoner Manufacturing Company of Aurora, Illinois in July 1937. A follow-up to Stoner's 1935 baseball game The Ball Fan, it continued the company's use of America's national pastime as a theme at a time when sports and entertainment were becoming a staple pairing in coin-operated amusements. Like its predecessor, it was part of Stoner's 'Aristocrat' series of games.
The machine has a simple, compact design, with an advertised footprint of 21 inches by 41 inches. Gameplay is straightforward for the era: players fed in a nickel per play and attempted to score points on the baseball-themed playfield, without the flippers or elaborate electronics of later decades.
Little is known about the designer behind this game or how many were produced. Nevertheless, the Ball Fan Series of 1937 remains a relic of America's pinball past, providing a tangible link to the era when baseball-themed games first began captivating players' attention.
