King Arthur and his Round Table
About This Machine
King Arthur and his Round Table, manufactured by D. Gottlieb & Company in October 1949, is a solid example of the early flipper era of electro-mechanical (EM) pinball. Designed by Harry Mabs, this machine came just two years after flippers were introduced to pinball, and its two flippers gave players meaningful control over their shots at a time when the technology was still new.
The machine's features include two pop bumpers, two passive bumpers, and two kick-out holes, along with dual outlanes and no slingshots, requiring precise aiming to advance through the game. A distinctive aspect of this pinball is its sound system, featuring two bells that ring out in celebration of successful shots.
The design and artwork on King Arthur and his Round Table, created by Roy Parker, reflect the medieval theme, with illustrations of knights and castles adorning the machine. With 1,220 units confirmed produced, it remains a piece of gaming history from the earliest years of flipper pinball.
