Jungle Lord
About This Machine
The Jungle Lord is a notable solid-state pinball machine from 1981, designed by Barry Oursler and produced by Williams Electronics. It is the second of four System 7 games featuring a split-level playfield, marking an innovative design approach for its time and allowing players to navigate between two distinct levels of gameplay.
Key to the machine's unique experience is its four-flipper design, which offers unparalleled control over ball movement. Players can also target two 3-bank drop target banks and one 5-bank drop target bank across the playfield, with rewards awaiting successful shots. The Magna-Save feature adds an element of strategy, allowing players to save a ball and launch it back into action. Furthermore, the kick-out hole's clever design releases a trapped ball into a mini-bagatelle located in the upper playfield, creating a thrilling mini-game within the larger playfield.
The Jungle Lord's fantasy theme, brought to life by artists Constantino and Jeanine Mitchell, transports players to a mystical realm across its split-level playfield. Early production games featured a red cabinet (roughly 100 made) before Williams switched to a blue cabinet with slightly revised tiger artwork. With 6,000 confirmed units produced, Jungle Lord remains a well-regarded machine for collectors and serious pinball aficionados seeking an authentic experience of 1980s pinball innovation.
