About This Machine

The Invader, manufactured by Genco in October 1953, is an electro-mechanical amusement machine with an aircraft and wartime theme. Although sometimes listed among pinball games, IPDB classifies it as a Gun Game rather than a true pinball machine; it is in fact a reissue of Genco's earlier 1953 title Sky Gunner.

Gameplay centers on an operator-configurable shot count of either 200 or 300 shots per play, with bonus shots awarded for high scores. A three-dimensional war scene is brought to life by a gun that flashes as the player fires, and blacklighting adds to the dramatic, immersive atmosphere. Unlike Genco's prior gun game, Night Fighter, the Invader uses "regular play" scoring and does not include the Match feature, giving it a shorter backglass and backbox.

The cabinet is advertised at 34 inches long, 19 inches wide, and 78 inches high, a substantial footprint for a game of its era. As an example of early-1950s coin-operated gun games, The Invader offers collectors a glimpse into the amusement machines that existed alongside, and were sometimes mistaken for, contemporary pinball games.
