Home Run 1940
About This Machine
Home Run 1940, produced by Chicago Coin Machine Manufacturing Company in February 1940, is a single-player, flipperless electro-mechanical game with a baseball theme, continuing a line of baseball-themed pin games that had been popular since the early 1930s. A confirmed 2,645 units were produced.
The playfield is populated with twelve passive bumpers, giving players multiple scoring opportunities as the ball works its way down the flipperless layout. Manufacturer flyers also indicated the machine could be converted to free-play operation, a flexibility that operators of the era would have appreciated.
The game's art and design are simple yet effective, reflecting the aesthetic of sports-themed pin games of the period. No designer is credited in available records, but as a solid example of pre-flipper baseball pinball, Home Run 1940 holds an interesting place in the history of the sport's long relationship with the game.
