Hollywood
About This Machine
Hollywood, designed by Steve Kordek with artwork by George Molentin, was manufactured by Williams Electronic Manufacturing Corporation in May 1961, with 550 units confirmed produced. The game featured Williams' "Styling of the 60's", a cabinet design the company used on several games during 1960-1961, with anodized aluminum trim and tapered tubular chromium steel legs. A shelf with a cigarette holder allowed for the placement of drinks and increased the cabinet length by six inches, and the plywood bottom was upgraded from quarter-inch to three-quarter-inch thickness.
On the playfield, Hollywood offers two-player competition with three or five ball play on a Plasticote-finished playfield. The game carries two flippers, four pop bumpers, four passive bumpers, two slingshots, two standup targets, two gobble holes, and a swinging target, each presenting its own challenge and reward. Scoring is tracked to a maximum displayed score of 1,999 points per player, with two bells and a knocker providing the soundtrack.
The Show Business theme adds to the machine's charm, evoking the glamour and excitement of old Hollywood. As a Steve Kordek design from Williams' early-1960s catalog, Hollywood offers enthusiasts an appealing snapshot of EM pinball at the start of a stylish new decade.
